MIDCENTURY REFRESH

Redesigning the raised back patio and how it transitions to the lower ground level was our challenge for this ranch style midcentury modern home, in Woodland Hills, CA.

In keeping with the midcentury architecture of the home, the lines are clean and minimal. The simple sand finish concrete patio, cantilevered staircase and a large raised planter as the bridge between the upper and lower levels. Wood and steel cable railing along the patio not only provides safety, but also adds to the modern material palette that ties into the fencing and gates placed around the property.

Desert Museum trees in the large raised planters add color and texture. They provide privacy to the upper deck and house, but are lacey and do not completely block the view. Chalk Sticks was used as a ground cover around the tree for texture while keeping the overall plantings minimal and modern.
